The following report is a compilation of state and federal wildlife manager reportsand waterfowl surveys from across Minnesota. This is the 6th report for 2015.
Reports will be compiled weekly throughout the hunting season and should be available by Thursday afternoon each week. The Conservation Officer Report, available on the DNR web site, also contains information about waterfowl hunter success across the state.
General: 29 October 2015
Duck hunting was fairly slow across the state during the past week. However, the cold front and strong NW winds the past few days should have brought additional migrant ducks into the state. Most hunters are seeing a mixed bag of both diving ducks and dabbling ducks. More of the typical late season migrants (scaup, buffleheads, goldeneyes) are also now present in the state.
Canada goose abundance continues to increase slightly in most areas.
Hunting pressure remains fairly low.
Most of the corn is now harvested. The recent precipitation slowed some of the tillage activities.
The weather forecast calls for mild temperatures on the weekend with southerly winds. In northern Minnesota, expect daytime highs in the low 50s on the weekend with lows in the mid 30s. In southern Minnesota, expect daytime highs in the upper 50s and 60s on the weekend and lows in the low 40s.
