The "big push" and tail end of the duck & Goose season for 2016

Mon Nov 14, 2016 10:03 am

Well the weather forecast says a major change in the weather as the jet stream is about to buckle back down into the USA vs up into Southern CAN like it's been for a few weeks which has kept us 10-25 degrees above average.
I think that there will be an influx of birds out of Canada. Now whether they do a fly by or some stop in MN, who knows. But I suspect that the true waterfowl hunters will be out in force this weekend.

It's now or never. Planning to hit it hard this weekend out in southwest MN and see what happens. It sounds like Aberdeen to Fargo to International Falls line will get measurable snow, Canada will be frozen by Sunday. It looks like temps rebound next week. We will probably have huntable open water for a little while longer.

The true waterfowlers will be out. Fortunately there aren't many of them.

Which weather forecasts are you guys looking at? The ones I am looking at make this storm look weaker than the one that hit Canada mid-October.

If the weather forecast I am looking at is right I predict there will still be plenty of mallards and canada's in Canada after this front. It isn't getting cold enough to lock up all the water and it doesn't look like they'll get enough snow to bury the food. I'm kicking around the idea of heading back up to Saskatchewan again after Thanksgiving. We'll see how the weather looks and if I can catch up enough at work to make it happen.

Accuweather is saying for Brandon MT low 30's for highs and teens for lows. Not enough to freeze huge water but enough to free bays and marshes.

Snow for ND will move birds from there, looking like 4+ inches.

I don't think it's going to be a big deal...it's normal at best for this time of year. Still be a lot of birds north after this weekend.

I won't argue that at all. But others species likely will be winging it south, like Widgeon, Gadwalls, Pintails, Ringbills, Bluebills, Redheads from up there.

A good idea. Treat yourself.

Traveled back to home on Hwy 12 through Aberdeen/Waubay/Webster this past weekend. The area is loaded with snows, divers and most species of puddle ducks.

Looks like they are changing the forecast, Dakota's will just get cool weather and wind. Northern MN will get most of the snow, bummer. Still should be really good this weekend.
