Re: How Much Have You Spent for Hunting So Far?

Sun Sep 03, 2017 9:17 am

Working on the last 2 dozen Herter's redux from a 4 dozen haul a few years ago.

The only new paint I buy us Kilz Primer and quarts of Rust-Oleum Flat Enamel white and black.

All other paints come from the re-use room at the recycling center. Scored some half full 1lb propane's the other day!

Will likely add a shotgun this year, so might get $700-$800 all in after shells, etc

Only reason I ask this is cuz of the detach rings, but did you hear that anyone (not just old people) can use magnified scopes on muzzle loader season this year?

That will be a game changer. It has long overdue IMO.

Personally I think its BS that new technology on ML get a "special" season. If you want to use an inline or scope, great. But the use it during the regular season. Only tradition ML should have special season.

Being more ethical than the average hunter, I applaud the change. Why wouldn't we want cleaner shots when harvesting an animal?

Just bought a Remington 700 UML. 125 grains of Buckhorn 209 and 250 gr bullet zero'd at 100, bout 1.5" low at 150, and 6" low at 200. Pretty impressed.

Use a musket for waterfowl then too Al.

Separate crossbow season, compound bow season, traditional archery season also?

Or should they all only hunt during the "regular" season?

The way I feel about it with modern inlines and the bullets/propellants used in them if you are allowed scopes now they might as well open up all Minnesota to the use of rifles.

There was a time when the few guys that the muzzle loader season was for tested their woodsmanship skills by trying to get as close as possible to take a clean shot.

But Times change and our dnr are whores that'll do anything for a buck.
