Ginormous Spreads...

Just finished watching Higdon Outdoors TV, week 10 and was floored by the size of their decoy spread. The spread was on a small lake with a peninsula running out in it. They claim that 2,500 decoys (over 208 dozen) were used, both duck & goose decoys. I didn't think that there was room for a live bird to land, but they tried. Most of the filmed birds coming in were small groups of 3-10 ducks. Not a goose to be found that day.

Granted it was on a hunt club property, but just imagine that work it involved placing and maintaining a spread that size.

Wow. I've used 20+ dozen at some spots and it's a lot of work with 2-3 guys. I can't imagine 2500. I've snow goose hunted with 3500 and due to high winds and leaving the spread over night, that won't be happening again.

I think this is a pretty common theme in places like Crab Orchard, IL with different clubs. I have some old tim grounds VHS where they have likely more decoys than that on an entire golf course scenario that they leave out, most being sillohouettes.

I'm not sure where the video you saw was set but different parts of the country I think it's more common.

Likely an easier scenario when you're shooting stationary blinds on owned property.... and have a local "pro staffer" that offers indentured servitude to be a guide and grunt.

saw that episode as well. It was a sight. I think Scotty Threinen runs close to 1100 decoys when he's doing his instructional hunts

I love talking to guys at the boat ramp who say shit like, "pulling out all the stops an throwing the big spread. Probably got over 60 decoys in the boat. Got to for divers, ya know."
