Early goose..

Sat Sep 02, 2017 4:01 pm

Anyone get out for early goose?

I went out to LQP and shot some doves.

Saw maybe 20 geese total.

Not yesterday or today.... but with the cold front moving in tomorrow it could prove interesting so may go.
I think things are a couple of weeks early. The temps are 2-4 debrees below ave for Aug. I have an Ash starting to turn yellow leaves already. So it makes me wonder if we could see an influx of migrating geese on the NW winds?

Sitting at a cabin, fishing before Dawn, drinking beers by fire light all night long.

The last dregs of summer I won't stall, when I can chase geese all damn fall.

Cool front isn't going to do anything, it's early September. Only migration will be geese seeking refuge within city limits, saw several flocks high and heading se this morning towards the cities, amazing how quick they figure it out. Hunting nw metro, by 2nd weekend we'd always see tons of birds high and following 94 se

If you were outside all day you'd been eating a lot of crow for this post.

I didn't want to rub it in....

Plus there is another factor to the NW of MN, the drought in MB. Often they will transmigrate (laterally or even back north) rhis time of yrar, but perhaps it will give them an urge to go SE into MN where there is better water and food conditions

Nice molt migration yesterday morning. When I was out I saw multiple flocks of high birds taking a free ride on the North wind. Lot's a geese around!

Birds were in a field all week and when I went to hunt them they pulled the old switch and went to a field on the other side of the farm for the first time all week and never made it out far enough to take a look at our decoys. Might try again next weekend.
