The drive out there Friday night was white knuckle, stay between the ditches, scary. We should have gone south and taken I90, but we mistakenly chose the shorter, more direct route. The weather was either blinding snow on a 5 inch base or rain on top of the snow and below freezing temps. What a mess! Saturday I was wet to my underwear. The layout blind pad was a big wet sponge and I discovered my 25-year old Gore-Tex bibs are no longer waterproof. It was cold and windy, which I think helped the hunting. Saturday we hunted from a screen type blind sitting on stools popping up to shoot over the screen. That was a great change of pace. Monday was back in the layouts. While I and the others went to the trucks to get lunch, my buddy, Dave, stayed behind and got 5 out of one flock while out of the blind. The spread at this location was incredible with 1600 full bodies located on a very narrow finger of land with a 15 foot wide river around it and a pond 60 yards away.
I have liked all the lodges I have stayed at in SD. With full kitchens and large common areas, It beats motels where we stayed in Missouri for about the same price.
