Big spring snow event going to happen Aberdeen and north should hold them up. I would think the Lake Thompson area would be a fun place to be the next week.

They've been in northern SD all week. Yesterday they were heading into ND in force in the morning as a major migration day - but likely they will be pushed back into SD with the no open water and the snow. So this weekend the question will be - so how far back into SD will they push back south? And those out yesterday got into them pretty good in the PM.

Per NWS - Jamestown 6-12" pretty surprised such a wide range.

Where the winter storm warnings are tells the tale of where the accumulating snow will be in the Dakotas.

It's going to be a mud fest in ND and SD now after this snow and rain mix. Looks like more rain on Monday and Tuesday. Bring waders and rain jackets to stay dry out in the field for sure.

Looking at the forecast for ne South Dakota they are looking at highs in the mid twenties and lows close to 10 later next week. I can't imagine alot of geese will stick around in those temps. Might be a very quick migration if it ever warms up.

Nice job Bill! Looks like miserable weather but that snow goose hunting in the spring can be 70 or 17.

The drive out there Friday night was white knuckle, stay between the ditches, scary. We should have gone south and taken I90, but we mistakenly chose the shorter, more direct route. The weather was either blinding snow on a 5 inch base or rain on top of the snow and below freezing temps. What a mess! Saturday I was wet to my underwear. The layout blind pad was a big wet sponge and I discovered my 25-year old Gore-Tex bibs are no longer waterproof. It was cold and windy, which I think helped the hunting. Saturday we hunted from a screen type blind sitting on stools popping up to shoot over the screen. That was a great change of pace. Monday was back in the layouts. While I and the others went to the trucks to get lunch, my buddy, Dave, stayed behind and got 5 out of one flock while out of the blind. The spread at this location was incredible with 1600 full bodies located on a very narrow finger of land with a 15 foot wide river around it and a pond 60 yards away.

I have liked all the lodges I have stayed at in SD. With full kitchens and large common areas, It beats motels where we stayed in Missouri for about the same price.
