Clear Coat

Wed Apr 06, 2016 7:38 am

Anyone ever repaint any decoys and finish it with clear coat?

Repainted some goose floaters this past weekend and want to clear coat them yet but not sure what to use. Anything better than the rest?

I have used some Kyron, flat matte finish on mine. Be careful with putting too much on as I have found that the flat matte finish does shine if it is applied too thick.

The guys that carve and use clear coat use the ultra flat matte. The trick, according to them, is several coats of light mist. I tried it over some Herter's I refurbished. Didn't have a shine problem, but where it was too thick was less than clear, opaque might be the best description.

Thanks guys. Here's what they look like now. Repainted white and touched up flocking after picture was taken. Nothing spectacular but should get the job done.
