Need an expert

Sat Apr 04, 2015 8:41 pm

So the '67 Kiekhafer Mercury 110 (9.9 hp) has taken to starting, then dying.

I can get it to run on a second pull, then it coughs and dies out.

I've narrowed the problem to the fuel pump, fuel line, carburetor, choke, jets (does this one have them?), a faulty spark plug, or bad gas.

Hoping Maplelakeduckslayer can lend a hand, he seems to have these things handled

Sounds like the serpentine belt may be slipping.

Steel gas tank? Rust might be plugging the fuel delivery system. Happened to me last year. Apparently if you leave a partial tank in cold storage it can condense like a mofo in the off season.

It sounds like a fuel related problem (bad gas, clogged fuel flow, fuel pump). I don't believe that it has anything to do with the spark plug if it starts and then dies.

Try it with different gas tank and fresh gas. If your fuel pump has a screen with it, you may want take a look at that as well.
