lower unit for 25 hp evinrude

Mon Nov 25, 2013 1:53 pm

Anyone know where I can find a good used lower unit for a 1997 Johnson or evinrude 25. No of anyone with a similar motor with a blown powerhead? Can't see forking out a grand for a reman one.

There is a couple of places that come to mind. One is in Shakopee and has been around for over 40 years. Can't think of the name of it, but they buy/sell/repair all types. Not too far from Cantebury Downs.
The other place is in Burnsville. They buy/sell used motors as well. When the names come back to me, I'll post them.

Smitty's in Lake City might also be another place to try.

Twin city outboard is the one I Shakopee, but the company was sold about 20 years ago (my aunt used to own it when it was in Minneapolis). I have heard that they aren't the cheapest, but have no first hand experience with them

I've tried them, didn't have any on hand. Actually working through a place in Connecticut that has used for $560 with a year warranty. They've been a little slow responding though.

If you think of any place let me know.

Is that for an entire gearcase or just the housing?

I would keep a watch on Craigslist. Those 20's, 25's, and 30's are pretty common and pretty cheap. You can probably go back to the mid 80's for bolt on parts.

They are indeed hard to find. Thus the price that they can get for them.

Been looking for a 35hp Evinrude lower unit for a while now. Irritating how expensive they are. Darn well might as well part the motor out and get a different one. I've been looking for a tiller handle kit for my 9.9 merc big foot kicker motor. They want over $500 for the tiller handle kit, that just seems nuts to me.

Once spring gets closer a lot more outboard stuff will start showing up on c list and ebay. Good luck with it.

There's places out there if you have the time. I started looking for similar items for sale on eBay and then many of them had stores, sent out a bunch of inquiries and now located several lower units.
