4-Blade Prop?

Fri Jul 10, 2015 8:00 am

I'm considering changing the prop on my boat (Crestline JMV 1448) with 20-hp Evinrude due to some problems last season. For instance, it was difficult to get up on plane several times. I had an enormous wake behind the boat but nothing more.

I understand that going to a lower pitch on the prop should help, but I understand that going to a 4-blade prop vs 3-blade may also help or a combination of both.

Any suggestions?

Typically ..not always but on that type of motor the 4 blade is considered a power prop and the 3 a speed prop if that helps. but the pitch can change all of that. But if these are "stock" 20-hp Evinrude props the 4 is probably a power prop.

Well, I removed my 3-blade, 10 X13 blade and ordered a 4-blade, 10.2 X 11 blade. In theory, this should enable me to pull "wheelies" with my loaded boat. I'll post up what happens in the next week or so.
