What dog food do you feed your dog?

Sun Dec 08, 2013 1:30 pm

I'm looking at changing dog food. I feed him pedigree and have been thinking about changing him.
Ask Al how to successfully nest wood ducks, see you next season.

He seems to poop way to much? I hate taken him on walks as I usually have several piles to pick up and was thinking a better quality dog food might reduce this.

It probably would. Just curious as to why.

I switched from Purina One to NutriSource and I'm happy with the results. My lab has slimmed down and she doesn't crap as much as she used to. She seems to have a little more sustainable energy as well.

I like how Pro Plan Sport 30/20 works with my dogs. We fed Eukanuba 28/18 sporting for a while but even with my breeder discount it got out of control price wise.

You will find switching to a higher quality feed that they poop less and require less food to maintain weight. So in the long run a quality feed may not cost more per month.

Fed our lab Precise. Nice firm stools, twice a day. They make different age based formulas, which helped, and had a high fat for fall, which was nice when she was middle aged because I could only get her to eat at the end of the day, when the feet hit the floor she was game on.

I feed Science Diet lamb and rice formula...dumps once a day...firm....tastes like broccoli :D

Choosing a quality food is important...but I think often times dogs are just plain over fed. I think a common mistake is made thinking that our dogs are a lot more active than they really are. Most dogs I have seen are fat. The vet guidelines for body shape and rib fat is what you should look for. Just like our own bodies...dogs metobalism varies...and so should the intake of food. I have often heard people describe their fat dog as muscular...or big boned...which just like people isn't likely the case 8-) If your dog lacks stamina...it's probably not the food...but lack of exercise.

If you ever have the chance to see a dog sled race...check out those dogs. It's amazing what performance they get out of relatively small dogs.

I redily will admit my dog had some extra skin on her. I haven't gotten her out enough to burn it off cuz it's been cold and I've been lazy.

I feed her native level 1.
