Beat Up Dogs

Do your guys' dogs get pretty beat up upland hunting? Just par for the course?

When I took him last year couple minor scrapes and red nuts was all... yesterday he had bloody cut up eyes he's been wiping a lot today and a good chunk outta his leg. He was pretty sore and lethargic as well but he's doing quite a bit better today...still moving kinda slow. Didn't think I pushed him real hard but he's super high energy and when he got bird scent yesterday he didn't care about anything he just crashed through everything

Just kinda new to the whole upland game want to make sure I'm taking care of my buddy. If we were on a several day hunting trip would have felt bad running him again today although I'm sure he would have powered through it but honestly probably wouldn't have taken him out

What kinda dog? They can get beat up, especially face and chest and depending on the cover. Some people use chest protectors but I don’t like them. Easy to get caught up on stuff and too warm in the early season. The scratches don’t seem to bother them. I flush their eyes out often as they get full of crap…..cattails can be really bad. Having 2 dogs helps and switching up, especially early season so they don’t get too run down after a week of hunting helps a lot with stamina.

Thanks...he's a black lab. He didn't care about any of it til we got home lol. He was acting like an old man. Probably resume our runs tomorrow night think he'll be rested up enough. Just kinda surprised we run 3 miles pretty much nightly...I know him going buck nutty in that thick stuff is a lot harder than running though. Probably like me when I go play softball or something...run 3 miles a night and lift 3 nights a week but those muscles you don't typically use always get ya

Just kinda wear and tear, like caluses on a guys hands… and like calluses, they occasionally get to the point where they need a rest or some topical treatment.

Get home gf is supposed bto be watching bhim she goes to the bathroom he's got them all broke open again. Vet gave him some steroids and ointment. Hopefully he'll be ready to go in a week after stuff freezes hard next week
