My cousins good friends kid (18) went out yesterday for the very 1st time deer hunting. he shot a small racked 8 pt (170 live weight) 1st thing in the AM. Talk about beginners luck!
The deer knew something was wrong and had turned to look around a tree so the tree blocked the vitals, he shot it in the neck from 30yds away with a shotgun.
I get the calls from my cousin - please help him out as he does not know what to do and I'm and his dad are at work. So I get over there and guided him how to gut a deer properly, letting him do the majority of the gutting.
It was a good day as I got to help another person out.
BTW, someone, shot the arrow a bit high earlier in the season... as there was a 3" inch long () shaped wound on its back. Makes me wonder if the arrow hit a twig or they shot at it running as the wound was mid back, Vs 1/3 of the way point.
