Thanks guys! Okoboji isn't far from where I was at....same area....where we saw a thousand birds today easily. I can't give you much insight if you'd be hunting public other than there being a lot of birds in the area, and thinking a guy would do pretty well hitting the numerous public areas.....some pretty substantial in size. I doubt they get beat up as much as a lot of public in MN does, and even if I'm wrong the significantly higher amount of birds on the landscape would still result in a guy seeing a fair amount and getting enough shooting.
My parents own several hundred acres of farm land my dad's cousin and son farm....with the same being said for my KC uncle, my Georgia aunt, my step-up from MO, and some other people's land we can hunt because my relatives farm theirs too. Basically it's about four thousand acres we can hunt and 500-700 of that being in CRP spread across each respective farm of acreage of 80, 160, 240, or 320 that was purchased by one of my relatives. Most has CRP on it. There's several 30-50 acre "squares" and a lot of 14-20 acres on farms as 100' wide buffer strips. Not many acre or two farm sites or groves left, but the bird numbers are higher than ever probably.
It's only a three hour drive...really should try to start getting down there as frequently as I used to....It doesn't get hunted much. A lot of the stuff we walked was the first time anyone has hit it....and there is more CRP than you can hit in a day......far, far, far more than we came close to walking today. Guessing we walked a third of it at best.
