just got back from our arctic shee fish trip. weather was very tough to deal with 10 degrees with 25-35 mph winds fishing on the ocean. had to punch through 5 feet of ice to get through. blowing snow made the visibility about 50' at some points which got real sketchy trying to follow the other snowmachine without losing them. ended up with 16 fish, no monsters biggest was 20 pounds. Going to do that trip again but wait until mid april next time to hopefully it some better weather. It was a crazy trip but alot of fun minus the little frost bite on my nose.

5' of ice.....wowsers........how deep water you fish in ????

all of our fish came from about 4 or 5 feet of water under the ice. that shallow vexilars are worthless so we just used them to see how deep it was then put them away. deepest we fished was 45' in the river but all we caught was cod and flounders there.

Ya they are real good. Fried some up tonight. Would take them over halibut but I would also trade halibut for pan fish.

I regularly use flashers in 3-5 feet of water. Curious why you think they are worthless when shallow.

I go nuts when I can’t use a graph. Got buddies who bob for lakers in a few hundred feet and the current is too strong to be able to see your bait. I have no patience for that.

That's the shallowest I have ever fished up here. We normally use them. It just seemed like you could hardly see the bait because the cone was so small. Using big spoons and 8" tubes jigs it seemed like they would swim outside of the cone most of the time. Not sure what angle transducer I had but I cant imagine I was seeing much more then 2 feet of the bottom.

Need a tri-beam transducer and set it to the widest angle which is 20 degrees, mid is 12, the narrow one is 9 degrees.

Not sure why, but they quit making the tri beam, so you'd have to buy a used one - if you can find one.

Those things are awesome! I've always wanted to catch one...minus the 5ft of ice!!
