I like them but I like fish....as in the actual taste of fish.....i.e. fish that taste "fishy."
Most people like grease and batter. Sometimes the vehicle for the grease and batter they consume is via a piece of fish that tastes the least amount like fish as possible. That's why everyone loves walleyes. They're the blandest type of fish that tastes the least amount like fish there is......making the perfect vehicle for whatever type of grease and batter/breading people are particularly fond of.
To each their own. I realize I'm in the minority on a lot of my culinary tastes.....and eat some weird shit from time to time.....like the eyeballs off a smoked fish head, still lukewarm goose heart sometimes not even rinsed pulled out of a freshly killed goose carcass.....
Great lakes salmonoids are pretty poor compared to their saltwater life cycle/freshwater spawning cousins. Ditto for MN stream trout. The ones pictured are wild, naturally reproducing browns, which still subpar to their bright red meat cousins, are at least a little better than the Whitewater pellet eaters......especially if you brine and smoke them right.
