Yeah, trout are delicious....and trolling is awesome. There's trolling....and then there's precision trolling. Precision trolling is a lot more entertaining in my opinion, it's more of a science where you try to systematically test and dial in different variables. Trolling rods with line counters, leadcore, snapweights, planer boards, lots of changing out lures until you find the hot color, etc. Holding a rod with a random Rapala and trolling aimlessly isn't really the same thing. To the detractors, I'll give ya that in a lot of ways it's more about the gear and having your boat set up right than it is the skill of hooking the fish, but then again it's not that hard if you're gut hooking fish....which to each their own, it's not like I haven't filled a cooler full of gut hooked walleyes when they're barely biting.
Nershi, a sincere thanks for the awesome write up. I'd love to take you up on the offer because I'm not even sure if I understand the mast thing. I think I might have been thinking about something else.....those really long rods that that go off the side. We'll see how this summer goes....if I can manage to stay out of jail and get enough time off work I'll have to hit you up for Superior. I'm also kind of limited to how much I can travel right now due to some legal stuff I have going on. Whitewater I was able to go only because I was able to hop in with one of my bros and fly under the radar so to speak. Hit me up if you're hitting Mille Lacs, and I'll try to reciprocate the offer....again, legal stuff pending....I've got several upcoming court dates to see where things get sorted out and where my chips may fall.
