Semi-auto

I currently shoot a Mossberg 500 Maverick 88. I'm thinking of getting a semi- auto this year. I'm looking for a used gun more than likely. I would like to stay under $700-$800. Any advice on a reliable gun? And is there anything to look for in a used semi-auto?

There's used guns floating around in that price range. They might be used and far from mint but any of the 2 brands mentioned will be a flight of stairs improvement over a mossberg pump.

Almonds in Morristown had some sbe l's in that price range, far from pretty but very functional.

should be plenty to find in that price range. two things:

1) gas over inertia~ coming from the Maverick pump, either will be an improvement, but take and see what you like/don't like about either system. It will likely make a difference to you over time, so shoot a couple from friends if you can.

2) why used? If it's street cred, then you're in the right ball park, may want to increase $100. For $700/$800 you could be looking at new and have better selection: i.e. gas vs inertia, barrel length, finish, etc. AND not have to deal with the last owner's bad habits, lost choke tubes, etc. Example: http://www.weatherby.com/product/shotguns/sa_08/sa08_synthetic

Ha. don't get used stuff, get a brand new stoeger (made by benelli) model 3500 for $550. reliable. inertia

Go to a gun store to figure out what fits first. Benelli's and berettas are both good choices. Make sure you're comfortable with the muzzle weight of a gas gun.

Ahlman's Gun Shop in Morristown is a great place to start. There are also several gun shows coming up this month where you may find a good deal.

Another vote for the Stoeger. I've been shooting a model 2000 for several years and it has been a very good gun. It would be in your price range and new.
