I thought the same thing, but the guy who showed me the video lived in Colorado a while and said that although its a controversial shot to make, a lot of guys good with a bow take that shot as elk frequently come straight in to your calls. First time I've seen a shot like that taken.

And if the arrow was 6" to either side--what would have happened? A cripple? Just saying a broad side shot gives a hunter a LOT more room for error if it should happen.

Looked like hell of a shot to me. Much less chance to wound the animal compared to a gut shot or butt shot.
Ask Al how to successfully nest wood ducks, see you next season.

What happens if you miss the vitals? A cripple? Until you're in the circumstance you wouldn't understand.
